Hey there, I’m Iris.

No, that’s not the name on my ID. But I like it better, and this is the Internet, so I reserve my right to call myself however I please.

I grew up in Northern Italy, and moved to London in 2010, to finish my studies, find a job in publishing, and write short fiction on the side. One thing went to plan, one never happened, the other is still a work-in-progress. I’ll let you guess which is which.

Me and my camera

Ever since, life in London has been a rollercoaster. There have been exhilarating highs, plunges deep into the lowest of lows, and sudden plot twists. Whenever I feel the need to celebrate, drown my sorrows, or simply have a good time with the people I love, there’s a large meal involved: I cook from scratch a lot, eat out when my budget allows it, and talk about food with anyone willing to listen. There are few things I enjoy more than telling stories; here are some you can start from.

This blog is more than a collection of recipes and experiences that make me happy, though. It’s also about memories, and living with my heart split between two places: one isn’t home anymore, the other doesn’t always feel like it. It’s about wanting to always create more, learn more, see more of the world – and sometimes it’s about failing, too.

I hope you’ll find a post, a thought or a line that resonates with you, a restaurant or cafe to add to your list, a recipe you want to try. If you do, drop me a line – you’ll make my day.

  3. Hi Iris, I came across you on the food blogger connect video from 2013. My name is Freddi (Fredrika) of http://thepetitkitchen.com I just wanted to say, I love everything you said up there! I love vinyls and pizza and I also get alot of “Oh you look about 14 not 24!” it’s annoying! You seem pretty cool and am looking forward to future contact ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you Freddi, that is such a lovely comment! I don’t get called “pretty cool” often, so I’ll take that as a huge compliment. Funnily enough, there’s at least one other thing we have in common – the name on my ID (as more than one bouncer could confirm!) is the Italian equivalent of yours. That made me giggle ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll be sure to take a look at your blog, too. In fact, I’m doing it just now, and have to say that your pictures are really stunning. So yes, let’s definitely keep in touch, I look forward to it!

      • Haha, really? That’s awesome, it’s very rare you find such a good name like that in England ๐Ÿ˜› Do you go by the name of Iris in everyday life?

Also, will you be going to food blogger connect this year? I purchased my tickets the other day and I am very excited ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Yes, I will, I got my ticket early last autumn. Can’t wait for that weekend to come, and look forward to seeing you there ๐Ÿ™‚ To answer your question, I go by my real name in real life – those who first met me in the blogging world sometimes find it confusing, but I’m so much more comfortable with an online “secret identity”, for now ๐Ÿ˜›
