Hey there, I’m Iris.
No, that’s not the name on my ID. But I like it better, and this is the Internet, so I reserve my right to call myself however I please.
I grew up in Northern Italy, and moved to London in 2010, to finish my studies, find a job in publishing, and write short fiction on the side. One thing went to plan, one never happened, the other is still a work-in-progress. I’ll let you guess which is which.
Ever since, life in London has been a rollercoaster. There have been exhilarating highs, plunges deep into the lowest of lows, and sudden plot twists. Whenever I feel the need to celebrate, drown my sorrows, or simply have a good time with the people I love, there’s a large meal involved: I cook from scratch a lot, eat out when my budget allows it, and talk about food with anyone willing to listen. There are few things I enjoy more than telling stories; here are some you can start from.
This blog is more than a collection of recipes and experiences that make me happy, though. It’s also about memories, and living with my heart split between two places: one isn’t home anymore, the other doesn’t always feel like it. It’s about wanting to always create more, learn more, see more of the world – and sometimes it’s about failing, too.
I hope you’ll find a post, a thought or a line that resonates with you, a restaurant or cafe to add to your list, a recipe you want to try. If you do, drop me a line – you’ll make my day.
